Driving School System
The client operated a bureau service for driving instructors under a branded franchise
operation. In addition to developing the back-office server software, BaySoft created
a suite of linked programs for Palm-Pilots which are accessed from each instructors
vehicle.
Although originally developed back in 2001, this was one of our most technically
challenging commissions.
There are in excess of 60 instructors using a specially developed suite of Palm
Pilot programs in each car.
The Palm unit is coupled with a thermal battery printer and an end-of-lesson advice
roll is printed after each lesson is completed.
The pupil receives printed advice on syllabus coverage and scoring; payment transactions;
lesson schedules and test booking information.
The Palm unit is synchronised with the remote office transactions and booking data
is passed between the two systems.
The system reduced the need for actual contact with each instructor by around 95%
as messages and queries and advice of any booking clashes are all conveyed via the
Palm system.
